Grinding (abrasive cutting)

Grinding (abrasive cutting) is a precision-engineering process in which a rotating abrasive wheel removes microscopic material to achieve exceptional surface finishes.

It is typically deployed when the most exacting tolerances are required within high-performance components.

Advanced grinding capability

The LoneStar Group provides a comprehensive suite of advanced grinding capabilities to complement complex, high-value components trusted by the world’s leading critical industry partners. Through our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and in-house technical expertise, we can grind a wide range of materials from hardened steels and superalloys, through to specialist engineering grades.

Our in-house grinding capabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Surface grinding
  • Cylindrical grinding
  • Centreless grinding

Technical details

  • Tolerances to 0.005mm (0.0002”)
  • Surface finish to 4 CLA (0.1 Ra)
  • Automated capability to achieve complex geometries, finishes and tolerances
  • Processing of hardened and difficult-to-machine materials
  • Comprehensive inspection and quality assurance
